AI chat for your website
AI chat for a small business website: what it really does, where it goes wrong and what it costs
An AI chat on your website is not a miracle salesperson. It is an assistant that answers from a knowledge base you prepare and records enquiries. Set up well, it handles routine questions at night and on weekends. Set up badly, it confidently invents a price or a deadline you never offered. Below: what a chat does reliably, where it is risky, how we build an honest one and what the cost consists of.
At a glance
- What it does
- answers routine questions about your services, records an enquiry in your CRM, replies in the visitor's language, works 24/7
- What it does not do
- gives no legal or medical advice, takes no payments, makes no decisions in place of a person
- Our price
- from €1,500, fixed quote; usually 2–4 weeks
- Model usage cost
- paid separately, monthly; depends on the number of conversations, we work it out at the start
- Data
- conversations contain personal data: what is stored, where and on what consent is agreed before launch
What the chat can and cannot do
So a working chat has three parts: a knowledge base (your services, terms, common questions, rules), a model that answers only from that base, and a link to your tools: CRM, email or messenger. Without the base it is a generic chatbot, and that does not suit a company website. The rule of thumb: a chat is good where the answer is already written in your documents, and bad where responsibility and judgement are needed.
| Task | Can do | Cannot do |
|---|---|---|
| Questions about services and terms | Answers from the knowledge base, links to the right page | Invent terms that are not in the base |
| Enquiry | Asks for name, contact and the request, creates a CRM card | Promise deadlines or discounts on your behalf |
| Languages | Replies in the visitor's language; understands Slovak, Russian, Ukrainian and English | Guarantee flawless style with rare expressions |
| Legal and medical questions | Hand the question to a person | Give advice: a mistake here costs too much |
| Payments and contracts | Explain the process and give a link | Take payments or sign anything |
Where an AI chat goes wrong and why it matters
A language model produces plausible text, and if the answer is not in the base it may fill the gap itself: quote a price, a deadline or a condition that does not exist. For a small business this is not abstract: a customer can arrive saying "your chat promised me". The documentation of an AI provider recommends, among other things, allowing the model to say "I don't know" and restricting it to the documents provided. Even so, mistakes are reduced, not removed.
How we build an honest chat
We build the chat on rules we agree with you before launch:
- Answers only from your knowledge base. What is not in it, the chat does not claim.
- Saying "I don't know" is allowed. The chat then offers to leave a contact or hands the conversation to a person.
- Off-limits topics: prices outside the price list, legal, tax and medical advice, payments. These go straight to a person.
- Handover in one step: the manager receives the whole conversation, the customer does not repeat the question.
- A conversation log: what was asked, what the chat answered, which source it relied on. A mistake is visible and the rule can be fixed.
Enquiries into your CRM and messengers
A chat is useful when the conversation does not get lost. The contact and the essence of the request arrive as a card in your CRM or in the manager's Telegram, with a link to the conversation and a task with a deadline. The sequence "message → card → draft → task" is shown on the AI enquiry triage page; the demo there is labelled as a recorded scenario with a fictional client, not a live conversation.
What it costs
Setting up an AI chat is part of our AI integrations service: from €1,500, fixed quote, usually 2–4 weeks. The language model usage is a separate monthly line and depends on the number of conversations. We cannot name a figure in advance without your data, so we work it out at the start: we take your real flow of enquiries and show the estimate before work begins. If you do not have a website yet, it is a separate job: websites from €600. See pricing.
Personal data and GDPR
In a conversation people write names, phone numbers and sometimes details of their situation. That is personal data. Before launch three things must be decided: what exactly the chat stores and for how long, where it is stored (our system runs on hosting in the European Union), and that the model receives only what is needed to answer. The visitor should be told in advance that they are talking to an AI and briefly how their data is used, which is the information duty under Article 13 of the GDPR; consent to collecting contact details is a separate action, not a hidden tick box. Processing rules go into the contract; see also privacy.
Checklist: is an AI chat right for you?
A chat suits you if you agree with most of the first five points, and does not if the last two apply.
- The same questions arrive every day and the answers are already written somewhere.
- Part of your enquiries arrive in the evening and at weekends and wait until morning.
- Clients write in several languages.
- Someone handles the enquiries after the chat and replies: a person stays in the process.
- You are ready to prepare the knowledge base once and update it when prices and terms change.
- Not a fit: to most questions your answer is "it depends". Start with an enquiry form.
- Not a fit: you get a few enquiries a week. Email and a form are enough, a chat will not pay for itself.
Questions and answers
How much does an AI chat for a website cost?
Setup is from €1,500, fixed quote, usually 2–4 weeks. Language model usage is paid separately, monthly, depending on the number of conversations; we calculate it at the start from your real flow of enquiries.
Can the chat make up a price or terms?
A model can make mistakes, so we restrict it to your knowledge base, allow it to say "I don't know" and hand topics where a mistake is costly to a person. The risk does not vanish entirely, so we keep a log and test the chat on your real questions before launch.
Do I need a CRM for the chat?
No, enquiries can go to email or Telegram. A CRM is more convenient: the conversation immediately becomes a client card and a task with a deadline.
Do I have to tell visitors they are talking to an AI?
Yes, we recommend stating it clearly in the chat window, together with a short note on how the entered data is used. Details depend on your situation; if in doubt, consult a lawyer.
