A car service with fewer phone calls: booking, workshop board and quote on the phone

A demo system for a small car service: the customer books online, the mechanic moves the car along a board, and the customer approves the quote from their phone, item by item. The garage and the data in the demo are made up; you can open it and try it yourself.

The challenge

In a small garage, bookings come by phone and messenger, only the mechanic knows where a car is, and the quote is read out over the phone – then people argue about what was agreed. We built a system that takes a car from booking to handover.

What we built

  • Online booking in 4 steps: service, car, time, contact details; a confirmation and a calendar file
  • A workshop board by status: new, confirmed, diagnostics, quote, repair, ready, handed over; cards can be dragged
  • A quote by line item: on their own page the customer marks “agree”, “call me” or “not now”
  • Messages go to the customer in their language and to the mechanic in the interface language; notification in Telegram
  • After handover: a request for a review and a reminder about the next oil change
  • Works on a phone and a computer, with nothing to install

What it looks like

Workshop board: cars by status from booking to handover (demo data)
The workshop board: every car is a card with a status.
Online booking on a phone: choosing a service (demo data)
Booking from a phone in a minute.
Customer page: a quote by line item (demo data)
The customer approves the quote item by item.

Screenshots of the demo version: the garage and the data are made up.

What this could do for a garage

  • Fewer calls: customers book and see the status themselves
  • The quote is approved in writing, so fewer disputes at handover
  • Repeat visits: the oil change reminder goes out by itself

Built with

Plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript with no build step; in the demo the data is stored in the browser. The working version is a server, a Telegram bot and SMS or WhatsApp for notifications.
